This week we are featuring the 5th Michigan Regiment Band from the USA. Also includes an interview with both Guy Smith their conductor, arranger, player and Carol Smith their president. You can find them at www.mi5th.org/ on the internet.

Numbers played this week include Rock Of Ages, by T Hastings and A.M. Toplady. The Star Spangled Banner (1854) pre civil war version Captain Sheherd's Quick Step by Grafulla (he dedicated this quickstep to the captain of his regiment when he went to war in 1861) Just before the Battle Mother. The song sets to music a letter written home by a young soldier. He wrote that if he was killed in the battle he should not be mourned, but remembered in happier times. He was killed in the Battle. Dixie's Land by Daniel Emmett from Ohio for a Minstral Show. It was subsequently was adopted by the south as it's national Rallying Song.
